Product Description
What is galvalume?
Galvalume steel coil, commonly known as 55% aluminum-zinc alloy-coated steel, is essentially a composite coating consisting of 55% aluminum, 43.4% zinc, and 1.6% silicon. These elements are melted at high temperatures and uniformly applied onto the steel substrate through a continuous hot-dip coating process, forming a triple-protection coating.
Aluminum (55%) - Barrier Protection
Aluminum rapidly forms a dense layer of aluminum oxide when exposed to air. This oxide film effectively prevents moisture and corrosive substances from penetrating the surface, giving the material excellent atmospheric corrosion resistance.
Zinc (43.4%) - Sacrificial Protection
When the steel substrate becomes exposed due to cutting or scratching, zinc-being more electrochemically active-corrodes first as the anode. It "sacrifices" itself to protect the underlying steel from rusting.
Silicon (1.6%) - Key Bonding Medium
The addition of silicon helps suppress the formation of brittle intermetallic compounds between the aluminum-zinc alloy and the steel base at high temperatures. This ensures a strong bond between the coating and the steel sheet and provides excellent processing and formability performance.
Galvalume steel coil is a type of steel coil that has a coating of aluminum-zinc alloy, which is applied to it through a continuous hot-dip process. The coating provides corrosion resistance to the steel. It is ideal for use in outdoor environments and in applications where moisture and humidity are present.

High thermal reflectivity
Aluminum-zinc metal has a very high thermal reflectivity - about double that of galvanized steel. It can be used as a heat-insulating material. -
Heat resistance
Thanks to its good heat-resisting properties, aluminum-zinc metal can withstand high temperatures above 300 °C. It is often used in chimneys, ovens, lighting fixtures, and fluorescent lamp covers. -
Corrosion resistance
Because aluminum provides protective effects, aluminum-zinc metal has very high corrosion resistance. If the zinc layer is worn, the aluminum coating can prevent further corrosion from reaching the internal structure. -
Easy to paint
Aluminum-zinc metal has excellent paint adhesion - no pre-treatment is required. After weather-resistant treatment, it is ready for painting. -
Superior anti-corrosion performance
The overall corrosion protection capability of 55% aluminum-zinc coated metal is four times that of regular galvanized steel.
However, because the zinc content is lower and the zinc is encapsulated by aluminum-making electrochemical reactions less active-the sacrificial (anodic) protection is greatly reduced. Therefore, once a galvalume sheet is cut, the exposed edges lose protection and will rust quickly. For this reason, galvalume sheets should be minimized in cutting, and any cut edges should be treated with anti-rust paint or zinc-rich paint to prolong the service life of the material.
Galvalume metal has the advantages of corrosion resistance, hot resistance, cost-effectiveness, thermal reflectivity, etc. Therefore, galvalume metal is widely used in commercial buildings, automobiles, household appliances, and agriculture. Corrosion Resistance: Galvalume steel exhibits superior corrosion resistance compared to galvanized steel, especially in salt spray, humid, or chemically corrosive environments.
Heat Resistance: Galvalume alloy can withstand temperatures above 300°C, while galvanized steel may experience performance degradation due to zinc oxidation above 200°C.
Durability: Under harsh conditions, the service life of aluminum-zinc alloy is 2-3 times that of galvanized steel.

Galvalume steel: Ideal for highly corrosive environments (chemical plants, coastal areas, marine facilities) and high-temperature applications.
4. Cost & Appearance
Cost: Due to high-temperature processing and stringent quality control, the production cost of galvalume steel sheet is higher than that of galvanized steel sheet.
Appearance: Galvalume steel has a smooth, shiny, silvery surface, while galvanized steel sheet has a relatively darker surface.
